Your baby deserves the best beginning and breastfeeding helps you provide the best in nutrition, warmth and security.While breastfeeding is a natural process, it is also a learned art. The Lactation Service at Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre is here to help you nourish and nurture your baby. Our International Board Certified Lactation Consultants will provide you and your family with personalized breastfeeding care.

We realize that you may hear different breastfeeding advice from different people. Our goal is not to give advice but provide you with evidence based information, which will help you to make the best feeding choices for you and your baby. When you have any breastfeeding questions or concerns, you can depend on our experienced Lactation Consultants.

If a baby is admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, our lactation consultant will advise a mother on how to initiate and maintain an adequate milk supply till the baby is given for breastfeeding.

We have a team of two International Board Certified Lactation Consultants who provide education about breastfeeding, advice on dealing with breastfeeding difficulties, and tips on how to continue breastfeeding when returning to work. Our Lactation Services include:

During your pregnancy: Discuss with your Gynecologist about your plans to breastfeed and let your doctor know that you would like to see a Lactation Consultant soon after delivery. Some women may wonder if the size and shape of the breasts will affect their ability to produce milk. Nipple shape and size can affect the ease with which your baby learns to nurse. If you need help determining if your nipples are normal, flat, or inverted, please ask your doctor or contact our Lactation Consultant for a nipple assessment. There is a simple treatment available for flat or inverted nipples that may help and should be done in the last month or two of pregnancy.
During your stay at Lilavati Hospital: Our Lactation Consultant will visit you in the hospital and offer any help with breastfeeding-related issues like low milk supply, baby not latching or shallow latch, pain while breastfeeding, sore or cracked nipples, blocked nipples, engorgement, initiating and maintaining milk supply if the baby is in NICU, breastfeeding multiples, breastfeeding premature baby, breastfeeding baby with cleft lip/cleft palate, etc.
After you go home: Many mothers can experience challenges with breastfeeding once they get home. Do not wait for the problem to increase; get in touch with our Lactation Consultant soon. They can visit you at your home at your convenience and help address these challenges and identify solutions to help you meet your breastfeeding goals.
