SEWA the social service department of Lilavati hospital serves the health needs of all the needy people irrespective of their class,caste,religion or social background. This department seeks to bridge the gap between the needy patients and the fast evolving medical technology. Various social activities such as free OPD, services to senior citizen, sending mobile vans to Adivasi areas ,free health check-up camps are undertaken as an on-going process.Deserving patients are referred to us and many have received free medical and surgical services including high end procedures like CABG,Valve replacement,Cancer treatment, Orthopedic surgery etc.

Children are the future of the nation. They are the next scientists, doctors, engineers, pilots and hence it is essential to ensure they are healthy in their crucial growing years. Through SEWA, we have taken the initiative to help poor & underprivileged children receive free health check-ups, admission and surgeries. Around 50 children have been admitted under this initiative for various surgeries such as kidney, orthopaedic & cancer.

Save & Empower Girl Child

An Initiative by Doctors of Lilavati Hospital

In continuation to our initiative the event held on 5th Feb, 2014 highlighted Lilavati Hospital’s efforts and achievements so far and the plans for the future. In this event the doctors and management of Lilavati Hospital took pledge to conduct free health checkup camps for 50,000 girl children in the year 2014. In 2014, on World International Girl’s day we screened 754 girl children at Lonavala for a Municipal school. The screening included Nutritional Anaemia, Rickets, Menorrhagia, Refractile errors, Dental caries etc.

Save and Empower the Girl Child

Doctors of Lilavati Hospital are committed to protecting the Girl Child from deliberate harm and ensuring her well-being from conception to adulthood. As trusted advisors, they play a vital role in correcting misconceptions in society and shaping positive views for future generations.

On April 11, 2012, Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre (LHRC) launched its ambitious campaign, “Save and Empower the Girl Child,” at a mega event at JW Marriott, Mumbai. The initiative, led by LHRC doctors and coordinated by Ms. Poonam Dhillon, featured a spectacular fashion show by renowned Bollywood designer Mr. Manish Malhotra. Dignitaries from various fields graced the occasion to support this noble cause.

Leading Gynaecologist & IVF Expert, Dr. Hrishikesh Pai chaired the Organizing Committee, with Dr. Kiran Coelho as Convener, alongside Dr. Nandita Palshetkar, Dr. Rishma Pai, and Dr. Deepak Ugra.

Chief Guest Kajol shared, “My father never regretted not having a son.” She emphasized, “Children are God’s gift, and no one has the right to harm them. The country must stand up to save the girl child. Women are not less than men, and such thinking reflects an outdated, illiterate attitude.” She urged everyone to join the initiative, expressing her happiness in supporting the cause.

Tennis Player Leander Paes stated, “The best thing we can do for our children is to let them live their dreams, as my parents did for me.” He highlighted the significant roles of women in his life, including his wife Rhea and daughter, in his success.

Designer Manish Malhotra remarked, “A baby girl is one of life’s most beautiful miracles. This event is an opportunity to raise awareness. My show features not just celebrities but real people, including doctors and politicians, all united for this cause. I’m all for women’s empowerment.”

Event showstopper Sushmita Sen said, “I’m thrilled that Lilavati Hospital is championing this powerful initiative. God bless them. Despite strong laws in our country, their implementation is lacking. Given the chance, women prove themselves. It’s about having faith.” She expressed gratitude for the support and her honor in being part of the event.

Social Welfare Program

In November, 2009, the Free Orthopedic Camp was organized. It was the 4th consecutive camp organised at Lilavati Hospital.

During this camp 440 patients were registered, out of these 116 were operated (56 Botox + 54 Surgery + 6 Plasters). Other beneficiaries were 324 (Investigations, Physiotherapy, etc.)

Chief Guest Shri Amitabh Bachchan said that I consider this a somewhat unique occasion which I believe is truly laudable. A charitable occasion where eminent doctors of this country, who have always cared for this society gathered together to organize this function for underprivileged children. Children are our future and we need to look after them and how wonderful it is to do something for those that cannot afford the luxury of good hospitals or afford the kind of money that is involved for treatment.

SEWA Department Free Cardiac Screening Camp

On 29 th September, 2024 Menaben Helping Hands under SEWA Department, Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre organised Free Cardiac Screening Camp on the occasion of World Heart Day for the underprivileged, reaffirming our dedication to heart health and compassionate care for those in need. More than 300 patients were screened in the camp of which, 13 2D Echo Test, 5 Stress Tests, 5 CT Coronary Angiography and 2 Cardiac Surgeries was done post camp.

SEWA Department Free Orthopedics and Pulmonology Screening Camp

On 1 st September, 2024, Lilavati Hospital through its Menaben Helping Hands initiative hosted a Free Medical Camp at providing essential care and support to underprivileged patients suffering from Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis. More than 200 patients were screened in the camp of which 6 Orthopedic Surgeries are done till date.

SEWA Department Launch of Roshni Cataract Service and Camp

On 19 th April, 2024 Lilavati Hospital through its SEWA initiatives launched Roshni Cataract Services, with an aim to provide 1000 cataract surgeries for underprivileged patients. Till date 733 surgeries are successfully completed.

Under SEWA Department Free Artificial Limb Camp

On 20 th May, 2025 Lilavati Hospital through it’s SEWA initiatives conducted Free Artificial Limb Camp offering renewed hope and mobility to 54 underprivileged patients. Customized prosthetic aids including Jaipur foot, Calipers and other mobility devices were distributed.

Palanpur Camp

Under the guidance of the Board of Trustees, Sewa Department of Lilavati Hospital & Research Centre had organized a Mega Medical Health check up camp at Palanpur, Gujrat

1. Mamata Mandir, Vidyamandir Trust, Palanpur Gujrat on 25th June 2025

  • Total 450 Patients were screened at the camp.
  • The children were Deaf and dumb, blind and Orthopedic handicapped. Patient identified for surgery are 2 Cochlear implant, 1 Orthopedic, 1 Splenectomy + LR Shunt and 1 patient with major liver issue.
  • ECG - Total 33 (Children - 3, Teachers – 30)

2. Lilavati Hospital, Manibhavan Palanpur, Gujrat on 26th June 2025.

  • Total 350 Patients were screened at the camp.
  • ECG-33 nos.
  • Chest Xray - 3 nos.
  • Hospital had coordinated with JB Pharma for the following tests to be carried out at palanpur camp on 26th June 2025.
  • Lipid Profile test - 31 nos. NT Pro BNP test - 11 nos.

Total Patients screened on 25th and 26th June 2025 camps were 800 patients.
