Profile

Dr. Shailesh Sable completed his education at prestigious institutes in Mumbai and Aurangabad and has over 12 years of experience in Organ Transplantation and Hepato-biliary & Pancreatic surgery. He has been involved in nearly 1,100 liver transplants over a period of 12 years.

Dr. Sable completed a 2-year fellowship in Liver Transplantation (predominantly Living Donor Liver Transplant — LDLT) under Prof. Vinay Kumaran (Director, LDLT Surgery, Virginia Commonwealth University; ASTS fellow — Liver & MOT surgery; MCh G.I. & HPB surgery). During his tenure with Prof. Kumaran and team, he served as primary surgeon in more than 230 liver transplants (200 LDLT and 30 deceased-donor liver transplants). These cases include:

  • Pediatric liver transplants (reduced grafts & monosegment grafts)
  • ABO-incompatible LDLT
  • Dual-lobe LDLT
  • Combined LDLT with sleeve gastrectomy
  • Complete porto-caval transposition
  • Re-do LDLT
  • Split liver transplant and SWAP procedures

He has collaborated with pioneers in paediatric liver transplantation such as Prof. Darius Mirza and Prof. Mohammed Rela, and worked with Prof. Anil Vaidya in 12 simultaneous kidney-pancreas transplants.

Dr. Sable has publications in various national and international journals.
