 Dr. P. Jagannath has over 35 years of experience in the field of Surgical Oncology. He has been associated with Lilavati Hospital for 19 years. Throughout his career, he has participated as a speaker or chairman in 52 international conferences held across countries such as China, Dubai, France, Australia, South Africa, Portugal, Argentina, Germany, Greece, Japan, South Korea, Italy, USA, UK, Singapore, Turkey, and Spain.

Awards and Recognition
  • First Indian to receive IHPBA Distinguished Service Medal, 2020
  • Pioneer cancer surgeon who initiated Hepato-Biliary Pancreatic Surgery in India in 1985; performed the highest number of pancreatic surgeries (Whipple’s operations) in the country
  • Known for advanced techniques in liver surgery and introducing staplers in gastrointestinal cancer treatment
  • Established the Indian Chapter of the International Hepato Biliary Association (IHPBA) in 2000
  • Conducted an epidemiological survey on gallbladder cancer in the Gangetic Basin in collaboration with the International Institute of Population Sciences, leading to a published paper
  • Launched a nonprofit charitable trust, “Crusade Against Cancer Foundation,” in 2001
  • Part of the team performing the first bone marrow transplantation in India
  • Developed significant expertise in neuroendocrine tumors (NET) and started the Asia-Pacific NET Registry
  • Received the ‘Swastha Bharat Samman’ Award from Zee News and LIC in 2013, presented by the Union Health Minister Gulam Nabi Azad
  • Elected as President of IHPBA at the 10th World Congress in 2012, becoming the first Indian to hold this position

  • Organized and chaired the 8th World Congress of IHPBA in 2008, which became the largest and most acclaimed event of its kind
  • President of HPB Training, Education, and Research Foundation
  • Coordinated the first computerized hospital information system in India, which was appreciated by Shri Rajiv Gandhi in 1984
