Dr. Pillai has been associated with Lilavati Hospital from 1997-2006 and then from 2016. He has an overall experience of 32 years.

He has dealt with, Angiographies – 20,000 (approximately) and Angioplasties 8,000 (approximately)

Overseas Training

  • Had initial training on Coronary intervention at Cleveland Clinic Ohio in the year 1989 for 6 months with Dr. Patrick Withlow.
  • From time to time had training for complex PTCA and newer devices at Washington Adventis Hospital, Washington, DC in 1993, 1996, 1997, at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio;

Area Of Interest

  • Current interest is complex cardiac intervention using Rotablator & IVUS especially in LM bifurcation. Has extensive experience in percutanous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) & stenting -both through radial and femoral approach and other newer devices
Awards and Recognition
  • Pioneered Interventional Cardiology work in India and was one of the first to perform Coronary Angioplasty with Dr. Samuel Mathew in 1986.
  • Silver Medal for standing first in Final MBBS (Medicine), 1973 – Nagpur University.
  • Passed DM Cardiology (First Rank) in April 1982.
  • BARD International First Prize for Best Case Contest as Interventional Cardiologist, 1996.
  • Awarded "Interventional Cardiologist of the Year – 1996" by the Cardiological Society of India (CSI) in recognition of outstanding work in Interventional Cardiology, which included three months of training at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA.
  • Procter for Rotablator & IVUS (Boston Scientific).
