Profile

Dr. Chris De Souza graduated from the prestigious Seth G.S. Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai, completing both his undergraduate and postgraduate studies there. He was awarded the Manubhai Gold Medal for achieving first place in the Diploma Exam in ENT Surgery and stood first in the Master of Surgery in Otorhinolaryngology Exam conducted by Bombay University. Dr. De Souza completed three esteemed fellowships in the USA and one in Piacenza, Italy. He was elected a fellow of both the prestigious American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Neurotology.

An Accomplished Indian: 

  • He is the only Indian to reside in India and be awarded an Ad eundem Honorary Fellowship by the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2018 and of Ireland in 2023. Additionally, he is the only recipient of the Doctor of Literature (D.Litt.) Honoris Causa (2024) in the history of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences.
  • In 1994, he received the prestigious Orbit Silver Medal in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, for his surgeries in ENT and Head and Neck.

Dr. De Souza has served with distinction at Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre since its inception, performing thousands of successful surgeries in the field of ENT. He introduced the Newborn Hearing Screening program at all hospitals where he serves as an attending consultant and has performed over 500 cochlear implants with extraordinary outcomes.

He has also conducted numerous Bone Anchored Hearing Implants, including India’s first Ossia Bone Anchored Hearing Device. His work includes publishing the world’s most comprehensive book on Implantable Hearing Devices, and he is regarded as an authority on hearing disorders and ear diseases.

Dr. De Souza’s surgical expertise and vast experience span various procedures and conditions, including:

Repairing eardrum perforations

Repairing the tiny bones responsible for sound conduction, a procedure known as Tympanoplasty, in which he has completed thousands of successful surgeries

Stapedectomy and Stapedotomy for Otosclerosis

Treating Acoustic Neuromas and Glomus Tumors

Performing thousands of Mastoidectomies, making him a leader in ear surgery

Conducting thousands of thyroid and parathyroid surgeries, along with editing the largest e-book on the thyroid gland

Dr. De Souza is also an expert in salivary gland surgery, endoscopic nose and sinus surgery, endoscopic sinus surgery for sinusitis, dacryocystitis, cerebrospinal fluid leak repair, and has performed over 900 endoscopic pituitary gland surgeries. His expertise extends to countless other successful surgeries in the fields of Ear, Nose, and Throat.
