Dr. Bindu Mulakavalupil is the Senior Intensivist in the Department of Liver Transplant and HPB Surgery at Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre. She looks after the Medical ICU, Liver ICU, and Liver Transplant ICU, managing critically ill patients requiring advanced intensive care support.
With a background in Anaesthesiology, she further specialized in Critical Care by completing her training in EDIC, IDCCM, and IFCCM. Over the years, she has worked at various reputed institutes across India, gaining extensive expertise in liver ICU and transplant care, major trauma, general intensive care, advanced respiratory and cardiac support, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). She is also proficient in difficult vascular access services and long-line procedures.
Dr. Bindu played a key role as a core team member in developing protocols and policies during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and was an integral part of the ECMO retrieval program. She is trained in basic and advanced ECHO and Doppler imaging and has completed a 3-month clinical fellowship at the Liver Intensive Care Unit, Kings College, London.
An esteemed academician, Dr. Bindu is an IDCCM teacher and has authored multiple journal publications. She has also contributed chapters to critical care textbooks and is the editor of two widely recognized critical care books focused on interpretation of clinical investigations in the ICU and ICU practice manuals.
