Dr. Ashok N. Johari is a renowned Paediatric Orthopaedic and Spine Surgeon based in Mumbai, with an illustrious career dedicated to the development of Paediatric Orthopaedics in India. His passion for both children and orthopaedics led him to pursue this specialty, beginning his training in 1980 and further enriching his expertise through fellowships and visits to leading institutions in Japan, England, the USSR, Latvia, France, Germany, and the USA.

In 1985, Dr. Johari established a paediatric orthopaedic unit at a local medical college in Mumbai, further advancing this field at two prominent children's hospitals in the city. He played a pivotal role in founding the Paediatric Orthopaedic Society of India (POSI) in 1994, serving as its first secretary. Under his leadership, the society grew significantly, celebrating its silver jubilee in 2019 and inspiring many young surgeons to pursue paediatric orthopaedics.

With his extensive expertise, Dr. Johari has pioneered numerous innovations and procedures in Paediatric Orthopaedics in India, such as magnetic lengthening of limbs, growth rods for the spine, multi-segmental spine instrumentation, endoscopic anterior spine surgery, VEPTR, and botulinum toxin treatments. His dedication and visionary contributions have earned him numerous awards, prizes, and international recognition.

Dr. Johari held prominent positions including Chief Editor of the prestigious Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics (B) in 2006, President of POSI in 2005, Indian Academy of Cerebral Palsy in 2008, Indian Orthopaedic Association in 2010, Asia Pacific Knee Society in 2012, SICOT World Congress in 2013, President of the Asia Pacific Paediatric Orthopaedic Society in 2017, and President of the World Association Against Infections in Orthopaedics and Trauma (WAIOT) in 2019. He served as the President of SICOT, the global body for orthopaedics, from 2020 to 2022, and currently serves as the President of the International Federation of Paediatric Orthopaedic Societies (IFPOS).

A highly respected lecturer, Dr. Johari has spoken at prestigious conferences around the world, delivering notable lectures and orations. He holds the distinguished FRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons, London, and is a Fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of India. He has also been honored as a Honorary Fellow of the Slovak Orthopaedic and Trauma Society. Additionally, he is the Chief Editor of the book series Current Progress in Orthopaedics.
