A well-established speciality department, here diseases affecting the large intestines are treated medically or surgically depending upon the affliction. Medical treatment has precedence and even when surgery is required, minimally invasive procedures are used. Common diseases affecting the lower rectum and anus (Hemorrhoids, anal fissure, fistula) are treated on a day care basis with most cases being treated under a local anesthetic when operation is undertaken. Banding procedure on hemorrhoids and infrared coagulation of bleeding piles is done on out-door basis.
